Thangathi Coffee Factory sits in Kenya’s Nyeri County at roughly 1700 masl, where red volcanic soils, steady temps (13–26°C), and bimodal rains set up ideal specialty conditions. Operating under the Fairtrade-certified New Gikaru FCS, the mill sources from smallholders averaging ~0.8 acres and ~200 trees, growing Ruiru 11, SL 34, SL 28, and Batian.

Ripe cherries are wet-processed with careful fermentation, washing, and soaking, then dried on raised tables with frequent turning for even moisture loss. A lean, transparent team (eight permanent staff plus a factory manager) handles grading, payments, and farmer support to keep quality and relationships strong.

Beyond the cup, the co-op runs a nursery that empowers youth and young mothers and adopts climate-smart practices to protect soils and water—investing in the long-term future of coffee in Thangathi.
